On April 4th we held our first Talent Fair with around 50 attendees. In the event, 12 women presented their skills in a TED-Style Talk to an audience of hiring managers of companies in Düsseldorf and other women in the iwibdus network.
The event was kindly hosted by Uniper in their new facilities in Düsseldorf’s Media Hafen. We are very grateful for Uniper’s hospitality and to the other companies that attended as a hiring audience: Eon, International School of
Düsseldorf, International School on the Rhine, Konecranes, and Verisure. We missed companies that were unable to come due to last-minute circumstances.
Diana Stührenberg was the first speaker, American with a Chinese background, had lived in the USA and Japan before moving to Germany where she has lived for 18 years. She was looking for a position in administrative, operational or customer support.
Then came Luciana Bruno, Brazilian interested in the Marketing Area; Emma Hatfield from the UK; three women from India Aruna Shankar, Pooja Dalal and Sandhya Hanumenahalli; Malaysian Wong Pu Ei; Sarah Jakob from USA; South African Camilla Wirthel; Yasmin Arbab-Zadeh, German with Iranian background; Colombian Sandra Hoffmeister and the Australian Sara Allwood.
The atmosphere in the room was incredibly positive. These women were a very good sample of the diversity of the members of the International Women in Business Düsseldorf: Talented women from all backgrounds with international experience and English as a common language. On average, everyone had more than 15 years of working experience before having a break in their careers. The reason for this break is having to take care of their family as they followed their husbands on an international assignment.
After the speakers finished their presentations there was time for informal networking between the companies and the candidates. The audience was impressed by the enormous range of experience and skills presented by the women, as well as by the courage and motivation they had.
The Talent Fair is one of the many events that the International Women in Business Düsseldorf runs. The aims of our organization are to help international women find the right position in an organization or other ways to develop their talents like building their own business.
